Upper Marlboro, MD (May 10, 2002) - Diverse
Technologies Corp. (DTC), a dynamic professional services provider
to private industry and federal, state and local governments, received approval today from the Department of Defense to be a mentor to small businesses.
“This is a significant achievement because
as far as we know, we’re the first small business to be granted this
approval by DOD,” said O. Tyrone Barnett, chairman and chief
executive officer of DTC. “We worked hard through the years to build
a name that the government and the commercial sector have come to
trust, and now the greatest honor for us is being entrusted with mentoring other companies and sharing what we learned about how to succeed in the federal arena.”
The DOD Mentor Protégé Program was designed
to give small start-up businesses a helping hand in learning how to
conduct and grow a business while working with the federal
government. Under the program, major DOD prime contractors assist
small, disadvantaged businesses in enhancing their technical and
business capabilities and increasing their participation as subcontractors and suppliers for government and commercial contracts. Participating companies encompass a broad range of industries.
Typically, government contracting giants
like Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman have been chosen as mentors in the past. Rarely has a smaller company like Diverse Technologies Corporation been so honored.
“We’re especially honored by this
recognition because we are a smaller company, a little fish in a big
sea of government contracting,” Barnett said. “It’s easy to look up
the big fish, but what is telling is when a little fish like us
makes it big. That shows others that they can do it too. It
encourages entrepreneurship and innovation. How did we succeed? Not
by being a giant in the field, but by delivering the best products and services in a timely fashion. That’s something other little fish can emulate so they too can grow.”
DTC has selected to mentor C-Systems
International, LLC of Alexandria, Va. and is awaiting government approval. C-Systems International provides security and information technology solutions. Its president is Vuthy Chhim.
DTC delivers three core areas of business:
information technology, financial management and logistics support.
DTC is known as one of the only small businesses in the United
States to be awarded a prime contract to work on the largest
financial system in the world: the Navy’s Standard Accounting &
Reporting System (STARS). DTC’s expertise at the federal level and
large presence in such states as Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia have helped make the company a leader in the professional services market.
